John Jonas Sr. speaks at 9 11 ceremony
Minisink Hook & Ladder member John Jonas Sr. was given the honor of speaking at the 9 11 ceremony held at the Orange County Arboretum. Deputy Chief Jonas was the captain of Truck 6 on 9/11/01, and he & his company were conducting search and rescue operations in the north tower of the World Trade Center when it collapsed. DC Jonas' company, along with a civilian, Josephine Harris, were trapped in a void space in a stairwell and survived the collapse. The actions of the members of Truck 6, under DC Jonas' leadership, directly resulted in Josephine's life being saved. DC Jonas has continued his career with the FDNY after 9/11, and is one of the most well-respected names in the fire service.
